To The Moooon!

One of the nice things about B's job is that there is a group the employees can join for a small monthly fee, and they go do activities together.  Usually families can also join in the activities if they pay their own way.  Some activities include a Christmas party, rafting the Rogue River, dining at the casino in Florence, and the fishing trip that gets us all our fish each year. 

A 'new' activity this year was a trip to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville.  The trip was actually cancelled due to the snow storm in February.  Since the weather was AMAZING the day the trip was re-scheduled, everyone was fine with the cancellation.  The weather made up for the millions of kids at the museum due to the start of spring break.  Really - you go do all the fun stuff the first day of break???

The Spruce Goose is the main attraction at the museum.  Can I just say that plane is huge!  It's 'kinda scary' huge.  But old things in museums always creep me out a bit.  Like, in this picture my eyes see a person behind B's left shoulder, but it's just the way the plane was built - a walkway leading to a dark door in the very back of the plane.  That form of creepy.

 They have a kids area that P seemed to enjoy.  He's a regular Pilot!

They also have a space section in the museum.  I realize now that I didn't get any photos in that section - probably because I read almost every display.  So interesting!!  They even have a fake NASA control room with a demo of a countdown to a space shuttle launch.  Hello!  Couldn't understand a single thing they said with all that technical jargon.  And the room shaked when the shuttle took off!  A little unnerving when you can't 'see' the launch from a window.  Another guy watching the 'launch' said, "makes me realize I want to see one in person."  Um, sorry buddy.  Obama privatized most of the space exploration - including shuttle launches.  Maybe one of those private companies will let you watch a launch....for a fee.
